چکیده

Fuzzy adaptive equalizers (FAEs) are adaptive equalizers that apply the concepts of fuzzy logic. The main merit of applying FAEs in powerline channel equalization is that linguistic information (fuzzy IF–THEN rules) and numerical information (input–output pairs) can be combined into the equalizers. The adaptive algorithms adjust the parameters of the membership functions which characterize the fuzzy concepts in the IF–THEN rules, by minimizing some criterion function. In this paper, we propose a new FAE, using the extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm for powerline channel equalization. The simulation results show that the EKF-based FAE has lower steady state bit error rate (BER) and faster convergent speed compared to decision feedback recursive least-squares adaptive equalizer, recursive least squares (RLS) based FAE and least mean squares (LMS) based FAE. We also propose a robust improvement scheme for the new FAE. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed robust FAE is improved in powerline channel equalization and outperforms all the equalizers considered above. The BER of the proposed scheme is very close to the optimum performance. r 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

On the Practical Aspects of Joint Passive Phase Conjugation and Equalization Underwater Communication Systems

Underwater acoustic communication systems suffer from the channel impairments which results in time spreading of the transmitted signal. In underwater environment, multiple replicas of the transmitted signal are received at the receiver through different paths, which causes significant Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFE) was utilized to overcome this type of inte...

Overcoming Time-Varying Co-Channel Interference Using Type-2 Fuzzy Adaptive Filters

This paper presents a method for overcoming time-varying co-channel interference (CCI) using type-2 fuzzy adaptive filters (FAF). The type-2 FAF is realized using an unnormalized type-2 Takagi–Sugeno–Kang fuzzy logic system. A clustering method is used to adaptively design the parameters of the FAF. We use transversal equalizer and decision feedback equalizer structures to eliminate the CCI. Si...

Bayesian Equalizer for Inter-symbol and Co-channel Interference using Mamdani Fuzzy System

Linear and Non-linear distortion influenced data transmission rate in communication system. In the presence of White Gaussian Noise linear distortion occurs in form of intersymbol interference (ISI) and co-channel interference (CCI). Amplifiers, modulator and demodulator subsystems are caused for Non-linear distortions along with nature of the medium. Different techniques are used to equalized ...

In this paper, robust adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control is designed to control the Permanent Magnet (PM) stepper motor in the presence of model uncertainties and disturbances. In doing so, the nonlinear model is converted to canonical form, then, for designing the controller, the robust sliding mode control is designed to decrease the effects of uncertainties and disturbances. A class of fuzz...
